Members of Black Lives Matter in Saint Paul, Minnesota claimed that a man was brutally lynched in the India Mounds Regional Park on Tuesday, despite the fact that the individual not only turned out to be white, but also that county officials ruled his death as a suicide.

According to the St. Paul police, the man was identified as Michael R. Bringle of 50 years old, who was found hanging from a tree about 5:40 am on Tuesday. The Ramsey County medical examiner’s office said that despite the contradictory rumors that were spread on the social media, Bringle was Caucasian and was not found with his hands tied behind his back.

Additionally, the office’s chief investigator Lori Hedican said there wasn’t any kind of evidence that determined that Bringle died of anything other than suicide. The rumors about his death started with a Facebook post by a user of the name Davion Gatlin, who initially decided to claim the man was black.

Gatlin wrote that he and some other friends passed the park around 6 am and saw a “brother” hanging dead from a tree, attached some pictures of the body that he took from afar, and stated “they” are still murdering “us.”

Believe it or not, the verified Facebook account of Black Lives Matter Minneapolis has since picked up on his semi-viral post, also sharing the photos and claiming that the man was brutally “lynched.”

The group decided to post a message about this incident, and stated that a man was found “lynched” in St. Paul, and while the police were quick to call this was a suicide, witnesses on the scene told the hands of the man were tied behind his back.

In addition to this group, the unofficial Black Livs Matter St. Paul also responded to this incident, claiming that the man’s hands were tied behind his back and that the police are just lying about the circumstances surrounding his death in order to hide some kind of racist motivation.

After both posts, many people have informed the groups that the narrative doesn’t fit in this incident at all, but believe it or not, they don’t appear to be backing down at all. Far from it, the official Black Lives Matter Minneapolis group said yesterday afternoon that Bringle doesn’t look white and that they are simply asking for more details about his death.

While Black Lives Matter St. Paul refrained from giving any sort of apology, they posted a smiling photograph of Michael Bringle standing in a kitchen, which according to the group is the photo that his family wanted him to be remembered by.

On the other hand, Gatlin, who originally published the pictures, wrote in a later post that the news about everything related the Bringle’s case doesn’t chance “the fact” that black people are being lynched by whites.

Meanwhile, in the middle of this insanity, Bringle’s sister called on the community to respect her family and just accept that his suicide was most likely because of mental illness instead of some sort of racism. During a news conference, she added that he was a hardworking man and a great brother that always loved his children.

Responding to the controversy in a Facebook post, the St. Paul Police Department said that Bringle’s family had to spend a valuable time of their day worrying about a picture posted on the social media of the man hanging from a tree and correcting misinformation about his tragic death.

The department confirmed that he was white and was struggling with mental illnesses. Additionally, the department called those who posted or shared his photos to take them so Bringle´s family can begin to heal and he could finally rest in peace.

Following this rebuke, both Black Lives Matter groups decided to delete their original posts and issued updates accepting the department’s account of Bringle´s suicide. Black Lives Matter Minneapolis apologized and provided its readers with a number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

As of Wednesday morning, Gatlin’s photos remained active on the social media. He eventually explained that he did what he did in order to expose the truth on these officers and what they usually do to black people.
