Southern Methodist University came to the center of some controversy as their new policy regarding demonstrations, memorials, and protests received heavy criticism from their students. A 9/11 display was going be put to remind everyone of the horrors of that tragic day almost 17 years ago.
The university announced that the display would have to be moved to a spot farther from academic buildings because the university wanted to protect the rights of those who do not want to see it as “triggering or harmful” displays had to take place somewhere else. For some reason, the university came to the conclusion that there are rights that protect individuals from displays or speech.

This might seem like a simple request to fill as the other venue is slightly larger, but the students have basically been told to do their little demonstration somewhere else so that others who might not like it are spared. When did it become the university’s job to protect the feelings of their students or basically censor information or displays that they do not want people to see?
Universities across the country were once bastions of free speech where civil liberties were discussed and protests against corrupt wars were organized. Now liberals do not want their blinded students to see or hear any other ideas than the ones their professors have regurgitated to them dozens of times.
Colleges and universities have become breeding grounds for liberals as an echo-chamber has formed to protect their feelings from concepts that seem harsh. This echo-chamber includes nonsensical narratives that suggest that Islam is actually peaceful while the Crusades were barbaric and unjust and that European whites are solely responsible for slavery.
Cultural appreciation classes do not provide insights as to the genius behind some culture but how any other culture in the world is actually better than Christian American culture. Universities are bureaucracies with intricate hierarchies that allow for favoritism and corruption to take place while debate and free speech is silenced.

The most unsettling part of this story is that the universities across the country have become so disingenuous and phony that these students actually believe they have a right not be offended to certain ideas and ideologies. A right to not be offended would involve one sticking their own head into a bag so that nothing unsettling or startling ever cross their path, an option that would leave many globalists and Islamists pleased since their work goes on best when it is unnoticed.
Globalists and Islamists have been using their money and influence to wiggle their way into the curriculum and standards that are involved with a university. They promote agendas and narratives that passes onto thousands of students who carry what they are taught for the rest of their lives.
Professors often belittle or disregard conservative students point by making obscure accusations and random citations to ultimately get the student to backtrack. I was lucky enough to attend a somewhat conservative school and still I was incredibly worried that a conservative comment in class or a jab at liberalism would cause the professor to either take a second look at my work or grade me far harsher than another student. This kind of environment does not breed debate but fear, fear that if one does not accept the narrative then they will suffer as conservatives are brutally attacked.
These are the students who are offended by conservative ideas, they complain of being triggered and yet vandalize and cause actual violence.
Students at SMU did not give up though. They organized themselves and even reached across their political party boundaries as independents, conservatives, and young Democrats combined forces to explain why they should not move the demonstration area. They found that moving the demonstration area to a less populated zone would be an infringement on their first amendment rights since it is more important to say something than be protected from somebody saying something.
It is more important than ever for academics in the university system to rise up and debate each other in front of the students to test ideas and refine arguments, instead of pushing the problem off to a different zone. The university has retracted its original amendment to their policy as they acknowledged there are no rights that protect an individual from something triggering, but they still suggest moving all memorials and demonstrations to a different area.
