FATAL ACCIDENT - TIPPER TRUCK RUNS OVER TWO WORKERS WHO WERE NAPPING AT MANDAI DEPOT

A 54-year-old lorry driver has been arrested after the tipper truck that he was driving ran over two men.

The accident occured at the worksite of Mandai Depot, which is part of the upcoming Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL). The men, both Bangladeshi workers, were napping at the construction site. One of them, a 36 year old was pronounced dead on the scene. The other man, a 47 year old was unconscious. He was conveyed to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital when he was pronounced dead in the ambulance.

Sources said it was common practise for workers to nap during lunch but both were not supposed to be resting there.

The police have arrested the tipper truck driver for negligence causing death.

The LTA said it was deeply saddened at the fatal accident and will work with Gammon as well as main contractor Jurong Primewide to help the families of the affected workers.

In May this year, another Bangladeshi worker died after he was pinned under a truss which fell from a trailer at the same worksite.
