Lee Hsien Yang: “We Believe We Have Been Spied On”

“We believe we have been spied on. We think that the government intends to make us feel unsafe. A few of the attacks that we have had to face in private are now public – false accusations, character assassinations, the entire machinery of the Singapore press thrown against us. We have spent much of our time since Lee Kuan Yew’s passing defending ourselves from the apparatus of government.”

That was what Lee Hsien Yang shared with the South China Morning Post in an interview.

This comes after Lee siblings Lee Hsien Yang and Lee Wei Ling said they felt “threatened” by their brother Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s alleged abused his power.

Lee Hsien Yang has also said that he has been forced to leave the country because of PM Lee.

However, he did not provide details of the alleged government surveillance,

The siblings’ father, Lee Kuan Yew, has been known for his strong-arm tactics which gave rise to Singapore being known in a “police state”.

Netizens have also questioned why the 2 Lee siblings didn’t speak up in the past when others were made to feel “threatened” for their continued existence in Singapore.

This, especially after Dr Lee posted this cryptic message on FB yesterday:

Acknowledging the hard management style of his father, Lee Hsien Yang said:

“Let us not mince words. Singapore’s social compact under Lee Kuan Yew was – civil liberties may be curtailed, but in return your government will respect the rule of law and be utterly beyond reproach.”

However, he added that this social compact was “now broken”, and accused his brother of being ready to use his “public powers to achieve his personal agenda”.

An example of this, said Lee Hsien Yang, was the “secret” ministerial committe which was set up to evaluate the future of Lee Kuan Yew’s 28 Oxley Road house.

The late LKY had stated in his final will that the house be demolished.

“When a Prime Minister uses the government to grasp what he wants, this ceases to be a ‘private family matter’.”

Lee Hsien Yang added that he Dr Lee and him have “nothing to gain from the demolition of 38 Oxley Road, other than the knowledge that we have honoured our father’s last wish.”

“What could we gain from bringing this public, that would be worth political exile from our home? No personal benefit could ever balance those scales.”
