Not content with disrupting legislation or costing the nation $113 Billion dollars each year, Los Angeles Mayor, Eric Garcetti is warning that illegals may revive “urban unrest” if there is an attempt to deport them. In a recent episode of NPR’s “Latino USA,” the sanctuary city mayor deliberately described possible confrontations between illegals and Immigrant and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents if Trump’s deportation policies are enforced.

Referring to the 1992 riots in L.A., Garcetti used provocative examples to explain the type of catastrophe that could be repeated. The devastating riots he mentioned were sparked by the acquittal of four white Los Angeles policemen who were seen beating an intoxicated and uncooperative motorist, Rodney King (1965-2012), in a partial video that surfaced of the arrest.
The 25-second video—that went viral before people were using the Internet—showed only the reaction of the officers, not King’s actions, and led to anarchy in the streets of L.A. The officers involved were acquitted of using excessive force during the arrest.
The resulting five-day rampage rocked the nation and was only put down by the arrival of military troops and riot-trained officers deployed by President George Bush.
Property damages amounted to approximately one billion dollars. Fifty people were killed and over 2300 people were injured, including Reginald Denny who was pulled from his truck and beaten. Fortunately, he was rescued by bystander Bobby Green.
It is images like these that Garcetti says could be on the horizon if Trump has the audacity to enforce federal law.
The L.A. mayor’s defiance of ICE is a longstanding position. He announced in 2014 that the L.A. police force would no longer comply with ICE requests to detain criminals for possible deportation.

One month later, LAPD Chief Charlie Beck promoted several policy changes that would support the area’s criminal residents at the “ICE Out of L.A.” Workers’ Rights Town Hall. The gathering was sponsored by the National Day Laborer Organizing Network, a group that has received funding by Nazi collaborator George Soros’ Open Society Foundations.
The ICE Out of L.A. Coalition is an alliance that “aims” to push “ICE out of L.A. … through diverse and innovative tactics.”
Speaking at a “Relief For Workers” Town Hall, Beck proudly spoke about the decision to stop honoring ICE requests, stating that the LAPD’s obligation is to “make [illegals] safe, and enable [illegals] to live a life that is full and happy.”
In keeping with liberal tactics, during the interview with Latino USA host Maria Hinjosa, Garcetti used suggestive and inflammatory rhetoric to describe his “fear.” He spun stories of imaginary ICE agents taking away the parents of a school child, and then having a gang of teenagers react violently in order to “keep that person from being taken.”
His remarks come after the enforcement agency recently announced more than 41,000 arrests during the first 100 days of President Trump’s administration. This was a 37.6 percent increase from the same period last year, and of those arrested, over 75 percent were previously convicted criminals: perpetrators of homicide, sexual assaults, and drug-related crime.
Earlier this month, an operation conducted by federal and local authorities also targeted MS-13 gang members in Los Angeles. As part of a three-year investigation, the pre-dawn raids targeted leaders of the international Mara Salvatrucha gang. Acting U.S. Attorney Sandra Brown confirmed that more than half of the 44 people arrested were in the country illegally.
President Trump’s executive order signed back in January has resulted in approximately 400 arrests per day. Homeland Security is no longer exempting any class of individuals, if they are in the country illegally, from removal proceedings. Due process is honored for offenders.
Garcetti’s interview remarks touted the current situation in L.A. as a “tinderbox,” that could result in days of looting, arson, and the loss of life. His comments seem both threatening and inflammatory. By voicing possible confrontation scenarios, he has established an idea that some individuals may embrace.
By delivering a threatening ultimatum to enforcement officials and the current administration, Garcetti’s comments have propagated the idea that illegals will fight back.
As the interview concluded, Garcetti was asked if he considered Los Angeles a “sanctuary city” and should be categorized as such. Not surprisingly, the mayor said, “If a sanctuary city means that your police force will not be deputized or take it upon themselves to enforce immigration law, then absolutely we are and proudly so.”
Proud to ignore federal law. Proud to place a burden on taxpayers of billions of dollars each year. Proud to discuss, in detail, the illegal attempt to prevent ICE agents from doing their job. Happy to suggest that teenagers will most likely try to overpower trained officials.
Garcetti is another example of leftist agitators doing whatever they can to thwart President Trump’s administration.
